How to do On Page - SEO


“Google something” is the most popular way of searching for information on the internet. We generally do that on a normal day to find the information that we desire. This is the quickest way of finding information at the fastest time possible. Unfortunately, due to the massive size of the internet, the problem increases for a content creator. The content that we intend to deliver to our community can be lost in the millions of the webpages that exist. Hence, getting our webpages on the top of the Google ranking on searches becomes a tough task. However, we can attain the same with rigorous SEO (Search Engine Optimization) practice.

There are various search engines in the market. For example, Bing, Yahoo, Baidu, but for most of our residential areas, people refer to is Google. Hence, we will make our page get optimized on the Google Search Algorithms to ensure that our page gets the most visibility on the internet.

In general, SEO can be executed in two major ways – one is the On-Page SEO and the other is the Off-Page SEO.  The On-Page SEO is targeted mostly within the website starting from the development phase of the web page itself. The codes are written in the Title Tag, Meta Description, Headline Tags and URL Attributes and many others form the fundamentals of how the crawler would crawl into the website which is getting developed. The initial question would be "What are crawlers?" The crawlers, as referred to the spiders, or the bots are programs that can automatically discover and scan websites by following the links from one webpage to another.

Hence, when we are designing the template of the website, the navigation strategy plays the biggest role here. The Header of the page, content on the page, and the Footer parts that have Internal Links on the topic and are relevant to navigate the visitor from that page to other pages to explore the website more are analyzed by the crawlers when they do visit the webpage.

Now, the crawlers do not visit the website daily. It comes at the initial deployment of the website and frequently visits if the codes have been changed, replaced, reorganized, domains shifted or any other update that has been made. The Robots.txt files communicate with the crawler which says which part is to be analyzed, that is which are the sections of the website that can be partially analyzed, partially blocked or fully blocked to crawl upon. Hence, Robots.txt file plays a major role to communicate with the crawler of Google.

URL – the address of the World Wide Web page plays a critical role in searching for the website by Google. It is recommended to keep the URLs as short as possible and include Target Keywords, which has relevancy in the search words that the customer's input while placing a search on Google. The URL Attributes which handle the content of a webpage tells search engines which version of a page you want to appear in ranking through the Canonical URLs.

The content used to design the User-Interface of the webpage needs to be specifically selected too. The H1 tags or the Heading Tags are the various relatable font sizes that are used to display the headers and sub-body of the content. The H1 is the biggest, most important font size indicating the heading or the topic, the H2 is a little smaller font as a sub-body which follows till H6.

The next look out would be for the Images tagged along with the content. Optimization is important here with the consideration of the image file name; again, based on keywords. This is known as Alt Text in general where a relevant name is tagged along with the concerned Image. The size of the image is suggested to be taken as low as possible, preferably 70kb using save for web. The image should be linked right with the XML sitemap, which can increase the search-ability on Google Image and social media sites. Internal links that are mostly placed on the Title Bar or the Footer section require smooth navigation to lead to different pages/sections of the website. Internal links should be strategically placed on the content of the page too for higher CTR (Click Through Rate). In average, 2-5 most important internal links should be hyperlinked to the content.

Once the Basic Website Structure and Navigation is completed, it now turns to upload it to the Internet. An XML Site map is generated and updated on Google console. The page load speed determines the weight-age of ranking too. The redirection test to proof the faulty 301 error code should be checked for Old to New URLs. The Broken Link Checks should be timely conducted to oversee whether any hyperlink provided earlier is still active or not. If not, any mega links of these sorts should be deleted at the earliest and if required, fresh or corrected URLs should be re-hyperlinked.

Out of all, a website should always have the zombie pages scrapped out, which are not being visited at all. The Intros to any content should be written interestingly so that the dwelling rate, in which a person is engaged more and the screen is halted for a longer period should be the utmost aim. The Bounce Rate can be automatically optimized too.

With all these on-page SEO strategies, one can easily ensure that the intended webpage can reach to the top on Google searches. Making the website responsive on all devices from Desktop, Laptop, I-pad, Tablets, to Mobile Phones should always be on the top of the mind.
